The mastiff in the church tower
The world of legends

Long ago, when the Andermatt sexton distributed the donated salt to the poor, he used a salt measuring vessel with a double bottom. He thus cheated the poor.

After his death, however, the new sexton encountered a mastiff every morning as he went to the church to ring the bell.

The new sexton reported this to the local priest, who banished the animal to the bell house and had it walled up there.
